Connecting Modern Women and Moms
I Read the following article about how jewelry making will improve kids motor skills.
Enjoy!
Beading crafts for kids do more than create fun projects and feel a rainy afternoon with something more creative than the television watching. Even from the youngest ages of two or three years old, beading crafts for kids can help improve fine motor skills. Manipulating cords, wires and various sizes of beads can help kids be more dexterous with their hands.
Kids in the 2 to 3-year-old range should only work with the largest, chunky beads that are not a choking hazard. They must be watched carefully and all beads must be cleaned up and put away after the craft is done, even those that have been strung on strings. Many crafts stores sell wooden or plastic beads that are up to an inch in diameter. These usually have very large holes that are perfect for thick chords or plastic laces. Children in this age group can improve motor skills by simply getting the cord into the hole on each bead.
For kids from 3 to 6 years old, the beading crafts for kids can be made more complicated, but they should still be fun. Girls especially will like making necklaces and bracelets out of pretty colorful beads. These can even be strung on stretchy cords and the cords can be knotted together to make jewelry pieces. Boys may prefer making jewelry for their mothers or crafting beaded items such as key chains.
Stringing the smaller beads on more flexible cords will help older children and prove fine motor skills. Manipulating a flexible cord so it goes completely through a bead can be challenging for even adults. As children get older you can also add in the use of large eyed needles and beading thread.
Even older children and preteens can be helped with beading crafts for kids. Some may enjoy using a beading loom or doing peyote stitches to make more three-dimensional projects. Beading needles and monofilament line are challenging to work with and definitely need dexterous fingers.
Beading crafts for kids can make nimble fingers and nimble minds while filling in afternoon with a pleasant experience.
