Spring Fun for Children - Your Thoughts!

Hi All,This spring has been my first real spring in a number of years, having recently moved to the area from gorgeous but “seasonless” Florida. I have fully enjoyed taking my two boys wherever we can appreciate all that this beautiful season has to offer. The recent Spring Farm Tour led us to Chicama Run, a darling family-run farm in Purcellville. We could not have had a better experience there. My little boys adored running around with the chickens and feeding them out of their hands, plus we…See More

Hello Fellow Modern Moms!

I am a very blessed woman with two darling little boys and a very supportive husband and family. I love hearing from other moms that they feel just as fortunate as I do – it is pleasing to me that other women are so content with their lives.

In my pre-mom days, I was an auditor. Auditing was great – the type I did was more like consulting, not so much number crunching – and I worked with amazing people. I was fortunate enough to work all over the country as well as in Europe and Asia.

Upon finding out I was pregnant with my first baby, however, I quickly realized that I wanted something different careerwise. That type of work just did not lend itself to a telecommuting option, and I was very intent on being at home with my little guy. I realized early on that I was at a crossroads in my career plans.

I had some time to think about my future career as I worked toward my Masters after Son #1 was born and until Son #2 turned 10 months old. When I was not busy taking care of my boys or studying, I was contracting out editing services. I had no idea at the time that this work would lead to an amazing opportunity a year later.

Once I earned my degree, I began strongly focusing on finding a career that met my goals of staying at home and working from home. One of my editing clients reached out to me about a new publishing division he was starting - and offered me the position as Managing Editor. The best part was that I could work from home, and I could make my own hours. I was – and am – ecstatic!

I truly feel that I have the best of both worlds – I can work from home and play at home. I held out for a long time for that perfect career that met my personal and professional goals, and it paid off.

I encourage other moms who have seemingly lofty goals like I did to not give up! They might need to be creative in meeting their goals, but that is what being a modern mom is about.

I am excited to be a member of I Am Modern, and eager to get to know other modern moms!

Take care,
Meghan Schindler Christian
