What ever happened to whiteouts? It seemed like I used to have 1 or 2 bottles in my office drawers at all times. Training my 7 year old son to do manly things, I asked him to help me replace the electric switch cover in his sister's room. I guess the one we had before was not feminine enough so my wife bought a fancy one for our daughter. The screws that came with the plate were painted white. Not too well obviously because as we started to tighten the screws, the paint started to come off. Exhibiting confidence to my son, I said "Not to worry, we will over the scratches with a whiteout." "Huh?" he said. "What is a whiteout?"

I then realized how dated I was. I am so 80s. A good friend, who saved my life and grades time and time again during college had died. Whiteout was no longer and I was not informed.
When did we stop using whiteouts? I used to be able to cover up everything with whiteout. Alas, no more whiteouts. My son understood that I was talking about a prehistoric tool that was mainly used by the Neanderthal man and said to sooth me, "I am sure they still use whiteout in some countries, like Germany."
