Connecting Modern Women and Moms

I woke up this morning to my husband, Tim, fidgeting with his Blackberry (a/k/a Crackberry) in excitement. Our 18 year old college son, Patrick, had invited him to Google Latitude which enables anyone he invites in to see his physical location at any time. We both agreed at that point that our 15 year old social butterfly needed it on his phone as soon as possible!

From there we started talking about the new craze on Facebook ... "25 Random Things About Me" (see Washington Post Style Front Page, 2/6/09)). Tim mentioned that Patrick's friend Sarah was "tagged" and subsequently succumbed to the trend. How did he know THAT? Well, he was on Patrick's Facebook and read his comment back to Sarah. Duh!

I commented to Tim that he was such a "social networking" kinda guy, feeling so hip with my new techy lingo. His response was, "No baby, I'm a 2.0 kinda guy." What the hell is that? He wouldn't tell me ... only that if I had to ask, I was totally unhip or I think he said, "You are not a Modern Mom!" No, I don't want to be unhip . I AM MODERN! I want to be with the in-crowd. And yet it changes every 5 minutes, how can a Modern Mom stay in touch? Well, that's what I have kids for!

So, if you want to be Modern and know what 2.0 really means ... Google it!

I'm with you, Nancy! It is exhausting trying to keep up with web technology. And 2.0 is supposed to make using the web easier by connecting people. But if the jokes in the new movie "He's Just Not That Into You" uttered by Drew Barrymore, who was clearly frustrated by all the new technologies she had to utilize while dating, were a challenge for a 30-Something, it's even harder for us 40 and 50-Somethings! Just when I think I've mastered some new form of social media, and have forgiven my children for berating me for getting on Facebook, out comes Twitter, Flixter, Mag.nolia, Hi5, Blinklist, it goes on and on! Who has time for all this socializing, anyway, whether on the web or in person?!!!

Oh... I just read about 2.0 somewhere but it escapes me. I'll have to Google it. Isn't it about simplification???
