It is never too late to improve one's smile. Right? I have had my eyes on Invisalign forever. I even got several consultations, only to chicken out. Recently, at my son's Ortho visit with
Dr. Courtney, I started to ask again about this system.
Dr. Courtney, ever so sweet and not pushy, told me I could do it. I knew that, but who knew I could do it at my kid's
pediatric dentist and orthodontist office. Well, you can. I did.
I have had my aligners in for 1 week now. I am thrilled and annoyed all at the same time. Some things you need to know.
- Notice no smile with teeth in any of my pictures. The aligners instantly make your teeth look good, shiny and bigger.
- It does NOT hurt. Not even a little. It is tight when you put it on at first, but you get used to it.
- Your tongue is sore due some sharp edges. I am told there is a remedy for this but I just didn't do anything about it and I did get used to it.
- You have no idea how much food you used to just pop in your mouth prior to Invisalign. You can't eat with it in your mouth, so no munching. Good for dieting. But you also can't drink coffee. Bummer.
- Your aligners will get tartar build up and staining, so brush and clean them well. Not with toothpaste. Learned that the hard way. The whitening toothpastes have abrasives that will make your aligners foggy.
- It is a little annoying. I am sure less than metal braces, but I feel them all the time still.
- You can't see them really but if you stand close enough to any friend, they will stare at your mouth.
- Your speech changes.
So far, this is my report. I will keep those interested updated.
Oh, you get over waiting at the pediatric dentist's office with no kids. I wish they did general dentistry too, but naaaah. All the noisy kids, not the best experience when you wait to get a root canal. I am still going to stick to the spa like dentist's office that bans kids. There are place where I draw the line with any kid.
PS. I was not paid to endorse this procedure. I am 100% freely volunteering my experience in case you are sitting on the fence.
